Expression of Interest: Temporary Station Commander (Joint Fire Control)
Location: Joint Fire Control, Surrey

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service is seeking expressions of interest for a temporary secondment/promotion opportunity to the role of Station Commander – Joint Fire Control. This opportunity is open exclusively to competent Watch Commanders (Control) currently serving within Surrey Fire & Rescue Service.

This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to take the next step in their leadership journey, further develop their strategic and operational management experience, and make a significant impact in shaping how we deliver outstanding service to the communities of Surrey.

Working closely with the Group Commander, the successful applicant will lead and support the control team in delivering effective and resilient emergency response and community risk reduction. You will be expected to manage and develop staff, maintain operational readiness, provide leadership at incidents, and ensure the performance and wellbeing of your team aligns with our values and priorities.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven competence as a Watch Commander (Control)

  • A positive, professional, and collaborative leadership style

  • Experience managing performance and people

  • Confidence in making decisions under pressure

  • Knowledge of the Joint Fire Control environment and mobilising systems

  • A strong commitment to our Core Code of Ethics and People & Inclusion Strategy

This opportunity will be offered as a temporary development role (2 months), either as a secondment or temporary promotion, depending on the individual circumstances of the successful candidate.
