General Instructor – Watch Commander (Training, Control)
Location: Wray Park, Reigate & Joint Fire Control, Salfords

We are seeking expressions of interest for a temporary secondment or promotion opportunity to the role of General Instructor – Watch Commander (Training, Control). This role will be based across Wray Park, Reigate and Joint Fire Control, Salfords.

This opportunity is open exclusively to competent and developing Watch Commanders and Crew Commanders (Control) currently serving within Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.

This is an excellent chance for individuals looking to take the next step in their leadership journey, develop their instructional and operational capability, and help shape the delivery of training that supports effective service to our communities.

About the Role

The successful applicant will work closely with the Station Commander – Learning & Development and the Station Commander – Control to support the delivery of a high-quality, resilient emergency response within Joint Fire Control.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development and readiness of Control personnel

  • Contributing to the design and implementation of policies, training materials, and procedures

  • Promoting excellence in operational control and mobilisation systems

  • Leading with professionalism and embodying the Service’s values

What We’re Looking For

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven competence at Watch Commander (Control) level

  • A positive, collaborative, and professional leadership style

  • Experience of managing people and performance

  • Confidence in operational decision-making

  • Strong understanding of the Joint Fire Control environment and associated systems

  • Commitment to the Core Code of Ethics and our People & Inclusion Strategy

  • Assessors’ qualification (Essential)

  • Award in Education (Desirable)

Terms

  • Temporary development role for 2 months

  • Available as a secondment or temporary promotion, to existing SFRS staff
