About the Role

Our children’s homes support children with learning disabilities, autism and challenging behaviours. We work together to meet the needs of our looked after children between the ages of 11-18; creating a stable foundation which will prepare them for the next stage of their lives.

As a Maintenance Person with us, you will be responsible for the routine maintenance, safety and security of the building and grounds; carrying out checks and minor repairs as necessary to ensure our homes remain safe and well maintained for the children. We want our homes to be exceptional for the children we are entrusted to care for. It's what we strive to provide and what our children want and need.

We welcome applications from people who are happy and confident to work alongside our children to help them gain simple life skills and to assist with creative projects.

We are a diverse team and we welcome the richness this brings to the children that we care for. We are committed to working together to provide the best possible outcomes for the children and in return we provide excellent support, training and development, including: safeguarding, lone working and health and safety.

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

  • Some transferable DIY skills and the ability to maintain a small garden
  • The ability to develop positive and appropriate relationships

If this sounds like you and you can match our energy to be exceptional, we (and our children) really want to hear from you!

To apply, we request that you submit a CV and you will be asked the following 3 questions:

  1. Can you describe any experience you have with DIY tasks or basic maintenance work?
  2. Have you ever been responsible for maintaining a garden or outdoor space?
  3. How do you ensure your interactions with others are appropriate and professional?

Working in our homes represents a unique opportunity to support our children and young people with their everyday lives. To do this safely you will be asked to tell us about any allergies you have that may need to be reasonably managed to ensure your safety and wellbeing with minimal impact to the children and young people we care for.

Before submitting your application, we recommend you read the job description & Our Life at Surrey handbook to get an insight into working at Surrey.

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 14/10/2025 with interviews to follow.
